About My Sisters Place

Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, which is affiliated with Thomas Jefferson University, provides the highly regarded MATER program for mothers facing substance use disorders and mental health challenges, with particular focus on opioid use.

The MATER program includes multiple levels of care for mothers dealing with addiction. These include an outpatient option called Family Center, a residential program known as My Sister’s Place (MSP), and ongoing aftercare. My Sister’s Place runs for 12 weeks and is built around a mindfulness-based parenting approach, giving mothers the ability to have up to three children live with them in the residential setting. Childcare is available across all MATER programs.

Treatment through Jefferson emphasizes individualized care, using individual counseling as well as group and family therapy. The program also offers medications such as methadone and buprenorphine during pregnancy and afterward to help support the shift away from opioids.

MATER is part of Jefferson Health, connected to Thomas Jefferson University. When patients receive services from other Jefferson Health departments, such as family medicine or emergency care, their records from those visits are connected to their MATER file to promote consistent care over time.

Patients can review treatment updates, learning resources, and other information from their Jefferson Health visits using the patient portal MyChart, also referred to as MyJeffersonHealth. Through a mobile app or the Jefferson Health website, the portal displays content from MATER and other department encounters, including instructions, appointment details, and billing information.
