About SunCloud Health SC

SunCloud Health supports people dealing with substance use, eating disorders, and mental health challenges in the Chicago area and in Maryland. At the Institute for Eating Disorders and Addiction in Northbrook, Illinois, it offers treatment for clients with both eating and substance use disorders at the same time. Using a holistic, solution-oriented approach, SunCloud Health focuses on multiple parts of recovery together, combining individual counseling, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), group therapy, interpersonal therapy, life skills training, medication management, motivational therapy, nutrition counseling, psychoeducation, stress management, along with complementary practices such as essential oils, drumming, yoga, experiential activities, and relapse prevention counseling. Although they do not run the 12 Steps in the way Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) defines them, their alcohol addiction program uses 12-Step concepts and encourages clients to take part in AA or another peer support program.

The Institute for Eating Disorders and Addiction offers residential services, day treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and virtual treatment options. While SunCloud Health generally prefers to address all concerns at once, it also provides a harm reduction model when needed—working with one condition at a time to lower self-harm risk while postponing treatment of another issue.

SunCloud Health holds accreditation from the Joint Commission, the Illinois Department of Human Services, the Eating Disorders Coalition, and the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals (IAEDP) President’s Council.

The process typically starts with a call to confirm whether the program is a suitable match, which can last between 5 and 60 minutes. If SunCloud Health decides the program is not the best fit, it connects clients with alternative resources. Admissions questions can be discussed with a team member available 24/7. A COVID-19 vaccination is required for residential admissions, but it is not required for day treatment or outpatient programs.

In addition to the main institute, SunCloud Health runs three other clinics in the Chicago area and one in Maryland, providing care for eating disorders, substance use, and mental health concerns. Other sites focus on treatment-resistant depression using specialized medication, therapy, and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). These locations accept individuals whether they have a single diagnosis or several co-occurring conditions, while still applying the same holistic treatment approach.
