Newport Institute delivers gender-specific support for young adults between 18 and 35 who are dealing with mental health challenges alongside co-occurring disorders. Residents receive a structured treatment plan that combines clinical care with hands-on experiences, along with vocational and educational programming designed to create lasting results. At Newport Institute, individuals can participate in individual and group therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), nutrition education, a body image group, and attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). The center was founded by Jamison Monroe with the goal of helping young adults build meaningful and joyful lives, during a time when mental health concerns have increased sharply across the United States.
Newport Institute offers separate male and female programs. Its Southern Connecticut campus is designed to feel warm and home-like, with spaces for group therapy, physical activity, and creative approaches such as music and visual arts. The location is also near the Connecticut shoreline and is within easy reach from the New York metropolitan area.
During treatment, young adults typically spend 30 hours per week in clinical and experiential programming. An additional 20 hours are devoted to academic activities, helping residents stay engaged while they make progress. The institute relies on assessments and tailored care to uncover the underlying “why” behind addiction and other behavior-related issues, addressing more than surface-level symptoms. Much of Newport Institute’s effectiveness is attributed to a dedicated, compassionate team focused on supporting healing in the mind, body, and spirit.
Life skills and academic services at Newport Institute are built to support young adults as they move into their next chapter. Vocational support helps participants prepare for work as they transition beyond schooling, strengthening executive functioning and motivation. For those pursuing college, Newport Institute helps residents remain focused on academics while keeping long-term goals in view.
