About UCSD Eating Disorders Center

The UCSD Eating Disorders Center works to enhance the well-being of people and families affected by eating disorders. Operating as a non-profit, university-affiliated program, it delivers treatment grounded in research and medical evidence for anorexia, bulimia, and binge eating disorder. Care is available across multiple levels, such as outpatient services, partial hospitalization, and inpatient programs, so individuals can receive guidance throughout their recovery.

Therapies and Treatment Approach The center provides a range of evidence-based therapies, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). These approaches assist clients in regulating emotions, strengthening healthier responses, and building practical coping strategies. In addition, specialized options such as radical openness DBT (RO-DBT) may be offered, particularly for those living with anorexia nervosa and struggling with emotion management.

Living Arrangements and Supportive Housing The UCSD Eating Disorders Center also offers adaptable housing options. For adults enrolled in partial hospitalization programs (PHP), supportive housing is available, enabling patients to receive structured, intensive care while staying at home or in the center’s housing. This model is designed to support skill-building in real-life settings, strengthen independence, and help reduce the risk of relapse. The center combines evidence-based therapies and supports, including DBT, intensive outpatient programming, and family therapy, to facilitate a stable return to everyday life.
