About CRF New Vistas Crisis Center

The New Vistas Crisis Center, situated in the heart of San Diego close to the Gaslamp Quarter, provides a Short-Term Acute Residential Treatment (START) program designed as a voluntary, homely substitute for psychiatric hospitalization for adults 18 years and older facing severe psychiatric challenges. The center focuses on mental health issues while also catering to those with concurrent substance use disorders, provided these are not the primary concern. To be eligible, clients must have stable medical conditions manageable through outpatient care and must consent to the program's rules. Typically, individuals stay for an average of nine days.

The New Vistas Crisis Center offers various services, such as psychiatric assessments, medication oversight, individual and group therapy, life skills training, integrated substance use treatment, recreational activities, and discharge planning for ongoing support. By delivering tailored care in a nurturing setting, the program effectively serves as a viable alternative to traditional hospitalization. Operated by the Community Research Foundation, the program accepts Medi-Cal clients and those without insurance, ensuring that no one is turned away due to financial constraints. Services at the New Vistas Crisis Center are available in both English and Spanish to enhance accessibility.
