In California, the Sacramento Children's Home provides a residential therapeutic program on a short-term basis for boys ages 6 to 19 who have been affected by abuse or trauma. With round-the-clock, highly structured support, residents receive coordinated care in a stable setting that encourages recovery and personal development. The program is designed as an alternative to staying in long-term institutional care.
The STRTP program works to build the practical skills and strategies children need to do well in a family setting. Through an emphasis on durable changes in behavior, the program helps youth address difficulties that may otherwise interfere with achieving a permanent placement. Residents attend nearby schools and join everyday activities, supporting consistency and routine.
Treatment includes intensive therapy, with opportunities for family participation and group meetings that strengthen social skills. In addition, residents can take part in the Independent Living Program (ILP), which prepares them for life as adults. The ILP supports education, vocational training, and job readiness, helping them move toward a stable, independent future.
