About Back2Basics

Back2Basics is a six-month, outdoor adventure recovery program for men ages 18–30 who are dealing with addiction. The Back2Basics approach emphasizes time spent in natural surroundings to help clear the mind and strengthen the body through challenging activities. Participants take part in wilderness adventures three to four days each week, including experiences such as mountain biking, snowboarding, surfing, rock climbing, and river rafting. The program blends adventure therapy with 12-Step support. Residents attend 12-Step meetings and also receive individual counseling and group therapy, along with life skills courses, recreational activities, nutrition and culinary education, and structured community integration.

A typical day begins with morning meditation, then includes gym-based physical fitness, group therapy, hot yoga, and concludes with a 12-Step meeting.

Back2Basics is based in the scenic mountains of Flagstaff, Arizona. Clients live in comfortable accommodations within a relaxed setting. Residents also receive a local gym membership that includes hot yoga and Tai Chi classes. Back2Basics is designed to deliver high-quality treatment that supports long-term recovery.

Questions to ask Back2Basics

Also confirm the facility is licensed by Arizona (this facility reports accreditation). If you are withdrawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, ask about medical detox; do not stop suddenly on your own.

Paying for treatment at Back2Basics

Back2Basics did not report which payment types it accepts. If you have Medicaid, ask whether the facility accepts your Arizona Medicaid plan or can refer you to one that does. Most private plans must cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to other medical care under federal parity law.
