About UnityPoint Health
Meriter NewStart provides intensive outpatient care alongside continued support, combining evidence-based and holistic practices. Services may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and structured group sessions facilitated by a skilled, experienced clinical team. Through its intensive outpatient program (IOP), the center offers addiction education while teaching healthier coping strategies and practical life skills that support lasting recovery. Participants are also guided through the 12-Step framework, taught constructive approaches to healing, connected with support groups, and supported with continuing care designed to help reduce the risk of relapse. The IOP takes place in a supervised group environment five days per week, for three hours each day. When clients are ready to transition to a less intensive level of care, Meriter NewStart offers tailored outpatient services, including periodic one-on-one sessions with physicians, certified counselors, and addiction treatment specialists on a monthly schedule. This longer-term individual follow-up can include medication-assisted treatment and medication management for co-occurring conditions or mental health concerns. In addition, the center coordinates external therapy options, helps connect patients with resources within their recovery communities, and provides ongoing assistance throughout the rehabilitation journey.
