About Safe Communities

Our peer specialists complete training through the Connecticut Community for Addiction Recovery (CCAR) program and the Wisconsin Certified Peer Support Specialist program. These are people with lived experience—such as individuals in long-term recovery from substance use and/or mental health challenges, or affected family members—who are ready to offer encouragement to others. By sharing their own resilience, they help others feel hopeful that recovery and healing are possible.

We connect with each person exactly where they are, both emotionally and physically. We recognize that there is no single way to recover, and that each person may choose a different path. We consider someone to be in recovery when they identify themselves as such. Our goal is to stand with them along the way—building a support system, working toward their personal goals, and strengthening a recovery plan that fits their needs and preferences.
