About Cumberland Heights

Cumberland Heights provides residential treatment on two campus locations near Nashville, Tennessee: 177 acres designated for adults and 67 acres for adolescents. The center offers programs separated by gender and age to support recovery from alcohol and substance use disorders, including clients with co-occurring mental health conditions. Cumberland Heights is a nonprofit organization founded in 1966. Treatment is based on evidence-based approaches, including dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, family systems counseling, trauma-informed care, and 12-step facilitation. Services are available through detox, residential care, adult extended care, and intensive outpatient programs (IOP). Cumberland Heights works with several major insurance plans; at admission, staff review coverage and determine what benefits apply to each client. The program is accredited by the Joint Commission and is among the first facilities in Tennessee to be certified for ASAM level 3.7 care.

Housing and activities at Cumberland Heights are organized by gender and age. Adolescents have access to options such as hiking, arts and crafts, a music room, a yoga studio, and a day school. The adult programs can serve up to 95 clients for both male and female tracks. Bedrooms are designed for comfort with two people per room and shared bathrooms. Meals are prepared by professional chefs and can be adapted to dietary needs. Residents do not have access to personal devices, though a pay phone is available in the evenings for communication with family and friends. Physical activity is supported with a gym and game room that operate on alternating days depending on gender and age. The center also arranges community outings, including hockey and minor league baseball, and it includes on-site amenities such as a softball field, regulation frisbee golf course, full-size basketball court, climbing wall, and ropes course.
