About Cumberland Heights
Cumberland Heights offers a 12-step outpatient treatment program for adults who struggle with alcohol and substance use disorders. The organization operates 15 outpatient locations throughout Tennessee, along with two 12-step immersion retreats and a residential treatment setting. Established in 1966, Cumberland Heights is a nonprofit dedicated to delivering individualized support so each person receives care tailored to their specific needs.
At Cumberland Heights, treatment is guided by evidence-based approaches designed to improve outcomes. Services may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing (MI), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), and 12-step facilitation. In addition, the center incorporates experiential therapies that support a more comprehensive recovery plan, such as adventure therapy, art therapy, relapse prevention, music therapy, recreational therapy, mindfulness and meditation, spiritual care, and yoga. Telehealth options are also available.
Cumberland Heights is the first addiction treatment center in Tennessee to be certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) and is widely recognized as a national leader in the field. The program is accredited by the Joint Commission and works with most major insurance plans, while also offering reasonable self-pay rates to make treatment easier to access. Adult intensive outpatient (IOP) programming is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with sessions from 9 AM to noon, 1 to 4 PM, and 6 to 9 PM. The family program meets on Mondays from 6 to 9 PM, Thursdays from 1 to 4 PM, and Fridays from 9 AM to noon. Al-Anon meetings are held on Wednesdays from 7 to 8:30 PM. Based in Nashville’s Music Row area, the site also provides a music-centered aftercare program in partnership with MusiCares on Wednesdays from 4:30 to 5:30 PM.
