Naomi’s Nest at Elmhurst Home provides residential care for women facing substance use and mental health challenges in Highland Park, located just north of Detroit. Elmhurst Home, Inc. is a non-profit organization committed to making treatment available to everyone, ensuring that no one is refused services due to lack of insurance or ability to pay. Public transit is convenient, with the 23 Hamilton and 39 Puritan bus routes stopping just minutes from the facility and allowing easy access to many parts of Detroit. Parking is available on site, and nearby major roads include Woodward Ave, Aretha Franklin Memorial Highway, Davison Freeway, and I-75.
Named after Elmhurst Home co-founder Naomi Oden, Naomi’s Nest delivers a broad range of life skills support, such as computer training, literacy development, social skills, and parenting education. Residents also receive learning opportunities through psychoeducation, relapse prevention planning, and anger management programming. Treatment includes cognitive behavioral therapy and drama therapy, including role-play activities designed to encourage positive, lasting change. The program includes weekly individual counseling and group therapy sessions, with 12-Step meetings available on or off site. As part of a holistic approach, clients can take part in yoga classes. Naomi’s Nest also incorporates community service and work-focused programming, including urban farming.
Elmhurst Home works to support sustained recovery and personal growth by offering mental health referrals and help with employment and housing. Naomi’s Nest additionally provides rehabilitation and crime-prevention resources, including GED preparation, pre-release job training, material assistance, and spiritual guidance.
