About Elmhurst Home

Elmhurst Home provides outpatient services for people in Wayne County who are dealing with substance use and mental health challenges, located in the Boston-Edison Historic District of Detroit. Elmhurst Home, Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to expanding access to care, ensuring that services are available regardless of insurance coverage or ability to pay. Bus routes such as 38 Plymouth and 29 Linwood stop just minutes from the building, making it easier to reach many areas of Detroit. In addition, Elmhurst Home offers transportation support for participants enrolled in its outpatient programs.

Elmhurst Home offers standard outpatient treatment as well as an intensive outpatient program (IOP). The IOP runs more often and is ideal for clients who need a higher level of support. Individuals in both programs must reside in Wayne County.

In both outpatient and IOP settings, Elmhurst Home offers psychiatric evaluations and medication management. Clients also attend weekly individual therapy sessions that use cognitive behavioral therapy and drama therapy, including role-playing activities designed to encourage positive change. The center additionally provides gender-specific group therapy, exploring how mental health and substance use can affect men and women differently. Through psychoeducation, participants learn more about their conditions and practical coping strategies. Elmhurst Home also provides case management services for clients in the outpatient programs.
