About Shepherds House Inc
Conveniently located near the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Shepherd’s House offers long-term residential rehabilitation for men, typically lasting 12 to 18 months, along with outpatient services for both men and women who are dealing with substance use and related mental health conditions. Established by a local church in Lexington, the nonprofit is dedicated to building a supportive community that helps residents strengthen their recovery.
The program uses a three-stage approach that guides men from the early phases of recovery toward structured independence and sober living. During the early orientation period (about 1 to 4 weeks), residents are monitored while away from the facility, work on finding a 12-Step sponsor, and either return to their job or begin searching for employment. In stages 1 and 2, participants gradually earn more responsibility, including being allowed to be out alone under a nightly curfew, while continuing with case management and a mix of treatment services. These include individual and group therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing), recreational therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). The weekly fee during stages 1 and 2 is $110. In stage 3, residents move into transitional housing with three other people, with a monthly cost of $405. After finishing the program, they may step into sober graduate housing in a single apartment for $450 per month.
Shepherd’s House also runs a six-month day treatment option, scheduled for 35 hours each week from 8 AM to 4 PM, Monday through Friday. The day program includes 12-Step meetings, process groups, relapse prevention, wellness activities, and weekly one-on-one counseling. For additional support, the center provides an intensive outpatient program (IOP) that features 12-Step groups, CBT, vocational assistance, and guidance related to healthcare.
