About ARC Karen's Place Maternity Center

Karen's Place Maternity Center is a women-only residential and detox facility for pregnant and postpartum individuals, situated on the King’s Daughters Medical Center campus. The center helps women who are dealing with substance use disorders through a comprehensive, holistic approach. Programming includes CARF-accredited clinical services and medical care overseen by an addictionologist. Karen's Place Maternity Center also incorporates a Christian-based model of care, providing 12-Step support along with chaplaincy services. Additional offerings include vocational training and education in neonatal care. Mothers are able to stay on-site with their babies.

The center uses a four-phase program. In Phase 1, the focus is on clearing substances from the body and establishing an individualized treatment plan. Upon arrival, medical staff conduct physical and mental assessments to shape the care that will follow. Medical detox is provided in a protected, monitored setting to support withdrawal from drugs or alcohol, and medication-assisted therapy is offered when appropriate.

Karen's Place Maternity Center’s residential stage is driven by Christian, whole-person care that addresses mind, body, and spirit. Clients have access to addiction specialists 24/7 and participate in evidence-based one-on-one and group counseling to recognize triggers and build healthier coping strategies. The program includes meetings through AA, NA, and Celebrate Recovery. After residential care, women may move into intensive outpatient services, with the option of sober living to continue treatment while allowing greater flexibility.

Phases 2 and 3 emphasize peer support and practical preparation for returning to work and school. The center continues to offer spiritual life opportunities, ongoing individual and group therapy, and 12-Step meetings. Clients also build life skills through employment-focused training, neonatal care skills, and educational support. During the last phase, men take part in an internship program aimed at strengthening real-world life skills. After completing the program, participants receive a Health and Human Services certificate from Sullivan University, which may be applied toward Sullivan’s associate or bachelor’s degree options.
