About Sandstone Care

Sandstone Care in Denver, CO provides treatment for substance use disorders and mental health challenges for adolescents aged 13–17 and young adults aged 18–30. The center focuses on approaches proven effective and tailored to different life stages, helping clients manage the specific difficulties that can arise at each age group. Services are offered through day treatment and an intensive outpatient program (IOP) located near Cherry Creek State Park.

At Sandstone Care, the therapist-to-client ratio is 1:8, supporting individualized treatment for clients and their families. Outpatient programs for addiction and co-occurring mental health concerns address a range of conditions, including depression, trauma, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and borderline personality disorder (BPD). Across levels of care, treatment includes 1:1 therapy, group therapy, structured group activities, and psychoeducation. Clients may participate in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Complementary options for whole-person support include mindfulness, art and music therapy, and nutritional counseling.

The day treatment program provides five hours of therapy each day, five days per week, and often lasts about four weeks, though the timeline can vary based on individual needs. Following day treatment, clients are encouraged to transition into the intensive outpatient program (IOP), which generally offers about 12 hours of therapy weekly across three to four days. For school and future planning, adolescents and young adults work with an education and career advisor who supports academics, job development, and career exploration. When appropriate, Sandstone Care also uses medication-assisted treatment.

Sandstone Care’s licensed clinicians, medical professionals, therapists, and education support team work closely with parents and loved ones during the program. Families may participate in weekly multi-family groups to learn from peers and build support. In addition, individual family therapy occurs every two weeks to help families better understand addiction and mental health disorders, strengthen recovery skills, improve boundary-setting, and support healthy emotional communication. After completing treatment, clients can stay involved through an active alumni community that meets regularly and connects them with community resources.
