About Destinations for Teens

Destinations for Teens Woodland Hills is an intensive outpatient program for teenagers ages 13 to 18, designed to address substance use disorders and mental health needs. The center places Family Systems Therapy at the center of its treatment approach. As described by Psychology Today, “Family Systems Therapy is a type of psychotherapy that helps individuals work through their concerns within the context of the entire family. Through collaboration, family members learn more about their shared patterns and how each person’s choices influence one another and the family system as a whole.” Destinations uses this perspective by offering a full-day PHP level of care to help determine whether a client is best suited for mental health services or a dual diagnosis track. Because the program is outpatient, it offers greater flexibility, so clients can receive structured support while continuing many normal responsibilities.

Treatment includes a range of therapy options, such as group, individual, and creative sessions, and parents are encouraged to take an active role in family meetings. Alongside 12-Step facilitation, Destinations also incorporates holistic practices, which may include art therapy, music therapy, physical activity and nutrition support, mindfulness activities, and surf therapy. In addition to clinical care, clients complete three hours of classroom-based education each weekday. When treatment ends, the center coordinates with the client’s school to support a smooth return and transition.

Based in Woodland Hills, California, Destinations is recognized as one of the leading teen treatment centers in the U.S. In a private environment, it provides on-site assistance, virtual classrooms, GED and college preparation, life skills training, and nutritious meal options. The program is accredited by the Joint Commission and works with most private insurance plans.
