Operating from Silicon Valley and supporting people across the United States, Ria Health provides an online, technology-focused rehabilitation program for alcohol addiction. The program delivers a functioning at-home breathalyzer, FDA-approved medications, and guidance for installing an app that records progress week by week.
Ria Health reports that over half of its clients continue with the program for at least six months, and that participants typically cut their drinking by about 75% over the course of a year while enrolled.
Through the Ria Health app, clients can communicate remotely with a licensed therapist from home. The app also pairs with the breathalyzer so clients can review their alcohol intake regularly. Ria says this shared data helps both the client and the therapist determine what strategies are effective and adjust the plan as needed.
Treatment is personalized around selecting the medication that fits each client. Ria Health can use Naltrexone, Gabapentin, Disulfiram, Antabuse, Acamprosate, Baclofen, and Topiramate, with Naltrexone being the most commonly used.
Ria Health follows a gradual approach that targets both the mental drivers and the biological aspects of addiction at the same time. Clients are not required to fully stop drinking at the start of the program.
Therapists at Ria Health rely on established counseling methods, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and motivational interviewing (MI), to help clients understand their drinking patterns and work toward reducing and stopping alcohol use.
