About Foundations San Francisco

Foundations San Francisco offers structured outpatient care, including intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) and day treatment options, addressing substance use and mental health needs. The center uses an abstinence-focused approach and works with people who have co-occurring disorders, trauma histories, and primary mental health conditions. Treatment at Foundations San Francisco includes group counseling, process groups, skills-focused sessions, and weekly check-ins involving the client’s primary therapist, along with access to the center’s on-site psychiatrist. Staff therapists at Foundations San Francisco hold master’s-level credentials. The center also offers family support, including two meetings each month.

Foundations San Francisco’s IOP is available in two schedules: a daytime track and a virtual evening track. The day program is held Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. The online evening program runs Monday through Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and clients choose the session that best fits their schedule. Weekly drug and alcohol testing is provided to support ongoing sobriety while in the program. For those who need a higher level of care, Foundations San Francisco offers day treatment, also known as a partial hospitalization program (PHP), which operates Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Telehealth options are also available.

Therapies at Foundations San Francisco combine evidence-based and wellness-oriented services. Evidence-based offerings include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), medication-assisted treatment (MAT), trauma-informed therapy, and relapse prevention planning. Wellness and complementary therapies include art therapy, somatic experiencing, yoga therapy, acupuncture, and massage therapy.

After completing treatment, clients may participate in alumni groups and community events. Foundations San Francisco organizes monthly alumni activities and encourages former clients to re-engage in treatment whenever needed. The program also coordinates with outside providers to help clients maintain the support and progress gained during treatment.
