About CRF Halcyon Crisis Center

Halcyon Crisis Center in El Cajon operates as a Short-Term Acute Residential Treatment (START) program. It provides a voluntary, comfortable, at-home style option to inpatient psychiatric hospitalization for adults 18 and older facing serious mental health emergencies. The program mainly supports people with psychiatric conditions, and it may also assist clients who have substance use disorders at the same time, as long as mental health concerns remain the main issue. Admission requires that a client’s medical needs are stable enough to be managed in an outpatient setting and that the person chooses to follow the program’s rules. The average stay lasts about nine days.

Halcyon Crisis Center delivers a comprehensive set of supports, including psychiatric assessments, ongoing medication management, individual and group therapy, and education focused on practical life skills. It also offers integrated treatment related to substance use, organized recreational activities, and discharge planning to help clients transition to ongoing care. With individualized treatment in a caring setting, the program functions as a viable alternative to hospitalization. As part of the Community Research Foundation, it serves Medi-Cal members and those without insurance, and services are provided regardless of ability to pay. The center offers care in English and Spanish to support access for more people.
