About Ujima Central Outpatient Program

Ujima Family Recovery Services is a non-profit organization focused on supporting families as they work through alcohol dependence, drug addiction, and other mental and behavioral health concerns. Established in 1986, Ujima has played an important role in reducing substance abuse and strengthening mothers and their families by helping them build practical life skills for healthier, more productive futures.

The Ujima Central Mothers’ Program is an intensive outpatient program in Concord, California, created to help pregnant women and mothers maintain steady progress in recovery. The program meets Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon, and continues for six months. Participants receive group and individual counseling, case management, and transportation assistance when needed, along with no-cost childcare for children under six. The program also includes periodic urine drug screening, referrals and support connecting families with state and local services, and guidance to support reunification between mothers, fathers, and children who are involved with Child and Family Services. Eligible clients can access on-site psychiatric appointments and medication management, along with thorough assessments, personalized treatment plans, and aftercare and discharge planning.

Ujima’s outpatient programs across Contra Costa County serve pregnant, postpartum, and parenting women who are seeking recovery from alcohol and drug misuse. Programs are designed to meet the specific needs of families affected by addiction, encouraging each woman to take ownership of her recovery, while building self-confidence and independence. Before admission, prospective participants meet with program staff, and whether children are included is determined individually for each mother, father, and child.
