About Bakersfield Recovery Services

Bakersfield Recovery Services offers full-scale addiction care through multiple gender-specific residential settings and outpatient programs. For women, Capistrano Community delivers individualized treatment built around the 12-Step approach, placing particular attention on family-centered values while supporting women in recovery and their children.

At Capistrano Community, residents stay in a secure, well-organized, alcohol- and drug-free setting within a secluded, home-like facility. The environment includes comfort-focused amenities such as a fenced-in backyard, children’s play spaces, a shared kitchen, a fireplace, patio areas, and an on-site laundry room. The program follows a social model that highlights accountability and personal responsibility, with clients helping maintain structure by participating in household chores. Women also take part in daily home management tasks, including menu planning, grocery shopping, meal preparation, and other activities connected to daily living.

The schedule is structured around daily classes and groups held four days each week, typically 7:00am to 4:00pm, with counseling services and offices located centrally on site. Group topics may cover addiction education, domestic violence, healthy relationships, process groups, parenting education, coping strategies, anger management, self-esteem, communication skills, relapse prevention, 12-Step recovery, and life skills training.

The program concentrates on the first four steps of the 12-Step model and includes daily attendance along with ongoing work with a sponsor. Transportation is provided for medical and counseling appointments, parole or probation meetings, 12-Step events, school requirements, and child visitation. Recreation and outings can include trips to the beach, amusement parks, theater, sporting events, and community festivals. Abstinence is supported through required regular and random drug and alcohol testing. Outpatient options and sober living arrangements are also available through related outpatient care and single-family housing near the facility.

In line with a strong focus on family values and reunification, Bakersfield works to keep clients connected to their loved ones through consistent family engagement throughout treatment. At Capistrano Community, women may choose to have their children live with them during treatment, including CPS-related and overnight visits when applicable. Residents can receive visits from spouses, sponsors, family members, and close friends up to two times per week, along with once-weekly family nights after the first 10 days of treatment. Transportation is available for CPS appointments, parenting classes, visits with children, and other activities needed to support reunification and ongoing family cohesion. Family nights are designed to introduce families to recovery concepts and provide addiction education so relatives can better assist their loved one.

Clients are allowed phone privileges during designated evening hours each day. Participants in the program longer than 45 days may, if approved by their counselor, leave the facility with an escort once per week, and may later qualify for weekend passes allowing supervised-free time off campus for approximately 6 to 30 hours. Typical residential involvement with Bakersfield Recovery programs ranges from about 6 weeks to 4 months, depending on each person’s situation and recovery plan.
