Set on a beautiful 10-acre site about an hour north of Anchorage, the Adult and Teen Challenge Houston Women’s Campus provides a Christ-centered program for women dealing with substance use issues. Established by David Wilkerson in 1960, the organization has grown to nearly 250 Adult and Teen Challenge centers throughout the United States and more than 1,000 centers in 95 countries worldwide. The Pacific Northwest Adult and Teen Challenge programs require a $500 intake fee, with no additional monthly charges for the rest of the program. The Houston Women’s Campus runs for one year and welcomes women along with their children.
The Adult and Teen Challenge curriculum is grounded in the Bible and is designed around three recovery priorities: addressing the damage linked to addiction, restoring relationships with Jesus Christ and others, and experiencing change rooted in Jesus Christ. During the program, participants join sermons and Bible studies, take part in prayer and spiritual retreats, and receive vocational training. Adult and Teen Challenge does not provide medical staff, so individuals must complete detox before entering. To support sustained focus on recovery, communication is restricted to immediate family, and personal electronic devices are not permitted. In keeping with the goal of full recovery from substance use, smoking is prohibited.
