About The Wellness Shack

The Wellness Shack is a recovery-focused mental health center led by peers, created to help adults who live with serious or long-term mental health challenges and/or substance use disorders. Its goal is to form a welcoming, secure, and respectful community where people can find recovery, encouragement, and renewed hope through peer-to-peer support. The center runs a range of peer-facilitated groups for topics such as alcohol and drug use, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and co-occurring (dual) diagnoses. In these sessions, participants can share their stories, learn practical coping methods, and receive support from others who understand.

Along with group meetings, The Wellness Shack offers individual meetings with Certified Peer Support Specialists, along with educational materials, advocacy assistance, and community-based social activities. The overall approach is designed to strengthen wellness, stability, and a meaningful, engaged life. A key element is a sanctuary-like atmosphere that protects both physical and emotional wellbeing, promotes acceptance, and reduces stigma. By combining peer support with a safe, nonjudgmental setting, The Wellness Shack helps individuals better manage their mental health difficulties and participate actively in their recovery.

What distinguishes The Wellness Shack is its peer-run structure, where the center is led and operated by people with lived experience of mental health disorders. This model supports a deeper sense of empathy and understanding, since staff and volunteers know the realities firsthand. Drawing on shared experience, The Wellness Shack offers a place where individuals can build hope, strengthen coping skills, and work toward realizing their potential.
