About Pioneer Human Services

Whatcom Community Detox, run by Pioneer Human Services, offers round-the-clock support in a safe, structured environment for adults who are withdrawing from alcohol or drugs. The center has 16 beds and supports a short-term stay, typically about 3 to 7 days. While at the facility, clients get assistance in coping with withdrawal symptoms and planning the next stage of recovery, such as outpatient care or residential treatment.

The program includes medically supervised detox, medication-assisted treatment (MAT) including Suboxone, and connections to longer-term recovery resources. The treatment team consists of nurse practitioners, counselors, peer support specialists, and other staff members who are trained in substance use disorder recovery. Many team members have lived experience with recovery and provide support at all hours. Referrals can be made by family members, hospitals, law enforcement, and mental health organizations.
