About Sobrius Curae
Sobrius is a residential rehabilitation facility situated in the serene countryside of Galax, Virginia. This center adopts an innovative cohort model of care, accommodating 10 to 16 residents in gender-specific living arrangements. Through this model, clients participate in the 30-day residential program as a unified group. They enter and complete treatment alongside the same peers, fostering meaningful connections that enhance the recovery process. The cohort shares daily activities, including meals, workshops, and meditation sessions. This collaborative approach cultivates genuine friendships and a sense of community.
The curriculum at Sobrius emphasizes a holistic strategy aimed at nurturing the whole individual—mind, body, and spirit—while being anchored in evidence-based therapies. Sobrius specializes in treating substance use disorders, as well as co-occurring issues such as trauma, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and depression. Therapeutic sessions are complemented by trauma-informed care, 12-Step programs, life skills development, and educational discussions.
Currently, Sobrius operates a men's-only treatment facility, with plans to open two additional sites soon. The existing men's facility is perched on an idyllic hill, away from potential daily stressors. Each room is shared with one other individual, and clients benefit from expansive communal spaces and ample outdoor areas for tranquil walks or simply enjoying the natural surroundings.
