About New Haven RTC

New Haven’s Stabilization & Assessment program provides a structured residential setting for adolescent girls aged 12 to 17 who are dealing with severe emotional distress or preparing to move on from inpatient hospitalization. The focus is on establishing a secure, supportive environment where participants can stabilize and complete a detailed psychological evaluation. Clinically, the program targets concerns such as depression, anxiety, trauma-related symptoms, and self-harm. New Haven also uses a collaborative, family-involved model, bringing parents into the treatment process so that support is provided not only for the young person but also for the family during recovery. The program usually runs about 6 to 8 weeks and does not offer academic instruction.

Treatment is guided by a multi-disciplinary team and may include dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), trauma-focused interventions, and the Safe & Sound Protocol, aimed at strengthening emotional regulation. A licensed clinical psychologist oversees each participant’s course, starting with a comprehensive assessment and translating findings into an individualized treatment plan. Alongside therapy, clients take part in life skills development and a range of supportive activities, including recreational therapy, equine therapy, expressive approaches, mindfulness practices, physical exercise, and yoga.
