About Odyssey House Inc

Odyssey House of Utah is a charitable organization focused on substance abuse recovery, operating several locations that provide specialized support to a diverse range of individuals and families, addressing addiction and related mental health issues since its establishment in 1971.

Recognized as one of the most effective programs in the region, Odyssey House has been honored as a 31-time Best of State winner. Their offerings include residential programs for both men and women, specifically designed to support single parents with children. This includes dedicated facilities for single mothers or expectant women along with their children, as well as spaces for single fathers and their kids.

The residential programs for single parents prioritize family unity, providing a nurturing environment where children can grow, develop connections, and recover from trauma while their parent undergoes treatment delivered by a skilled team proficient in evidence-based approaches and best practices.

Each client undergoes a comprehensive initial assessment that informs the creation of custom treatment plans suited to the specific needs of each family. The treatment team incorporates certified addiction professionals, counselors, mental health specialists, and psychiatric care providers to assist clients facing substance use issues alongside co-occurring mental health disorders such as anxiety, trauma, and depression.

Participants engage in a structured array of trauma-informed therapeutic services, which include regular individual, group, and family counseling sessions. During their parents' treatment, children receive care from specially trained staff. School-age children attend local elementary schools and benefit from daycare in the afternoons.

Odyssey House welcomes families with children ranging from newborns up to 11 years old. Clients typically stay in treatment for 6 to 9 months; upon successful completion of the program, they receive continued support to ensure long-lasting sobriety and the ability to lead independent lives.

The programs promote essential routines and skills, encompassing cooking, laundry, cleanliness, and other crucial life competencies. Alongside this, there is a strong emphasis on enhancing parenting skills. Parents take part in targeted educational programs, job preparedness training, fitness activities, and more. Children involved in the program engage in various activities aimed at strengthening and nurturing their relationships with their parents within a structured and supportive framework, supplemented by intensive family therapy.

Odyssey House offers a full spectrum of care, which includes outpatient services, sober living arrangements, housing support, and a responsive alumni network. Parents and children can pursue continued support through outpatient therapy, with options for adult residential programs available to assist families with multiple caregivers battling addiction. Medical services and medication-assisted treatment (MAT) are coordinated through their Martindale Clinic site. Their program specifically for fathers with children, initiated in 2005, stands out as the only residential facility in Utah dedicated to fathers and their kids.

Odyssey House of Utah aims to empower individuals on their healing journeys, working to cultivate improved lives as the largest addiction recovery program in the state. Their commitment to connecting each person with necessary treatment has enabled them to offer affordable, high-quality services. The facility is accredited by the Joint Commission and accepts Medicaid along with numerous major insurance plans.
