About Odyssey House Inc
Odyssey House of Utah is a non-profit program dedicated to helping people and families struggling with substance use through specialized treatment. Since 1971, it has supported clients with addiction and related mental health needs. With services offered across multiple sites, the center delivers customized care for adults, including co-ed and gender-specific residential and outpatient options. It also includes programming for single parents with their children, youth residential and outpatient services, and school-based support. In addition, Odyssey House of Utah provides sober and transitional housing, a criminal justice program, and comprehensive aftercare supported by an engaged alumni community.
The center offers a residential mental health program for men and women near the Salt Lake City area, with each track designed for a specific gender. The women’s mental health residential program is a 16-bed setting that provides individualized interventions led by a specialized clinical team offering individual, group, and family therapy. Clients begin with an in-depth intake assessment to create treatment plans based on their personal needs. The treatment staff includes certified mental health professionals as well as substance abuse counselors, allowing support for people managing both mental health challenges and co-occurring addiction. The women’s program focuses on conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, psychosis, schizophrenia, trauma, and PTSD.
Programming at Odyssey House of Utah centers on accountability and developing a strong recovery base using evidence-based, best-practice approaches. Services are combined to support each person through a whole-person model. Participants engage in structured therapeutic activities that challenge harmful thought patterns and behaviors, build vocational and practical life skills, support physical wellness, strengthen trust, and develop healthier relationships through communication skills. The program also assists clients with obtaining housing. Typical stays last about 6 to 9 months, and after completion, clients receive continued support aimed at long-term sobriety and stable, independent living.
Within the women’s residential program, daily routines such as cooking, laundry, keeping living spaces clean, and other essential responsibilities are emphasized. Women receive cognitive and behavioral tools to build resilience and independence. Treatment also incorporates sober activities and recreation to encourage peer connection, strengthen relationships, and reinforce the idea that recovery can include enjoyment and support.
Medical services are available during and after women’s residential care, coordinated through medication management and other supports connected to their nearby outpatient partner, Martindale Clinic. Odyssey House of Utah works to help individuals heal and create healthier futures, and it is recognized as the state’s largest comprehensive addiction program. By linking each person to the right level of care, it has expanded access to low-cost, high-quality services. The facility is accredited by Joint Commission and accepts Medicaid as well as most major insurance plans.
