About Odyssey House Inc

Odyssey House of Utah is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing substance abuse and providing specialized support for a diverse range of individuals and families. Established in 1971, the center focuses on treating addiction alongside co-occurring mental health issues. With multiple locations, it offers personalized treatment options for adults, including co-ed and gender-segregated residential and outpatient programs, as well as support for single parents with children. Additional services include youth residential and outpatient programs, transitional housing, a program for those involved in the criminal justice system, and extensive aftercare within an encouraging alumni network.

In the Salt Lake City area, Odyssey House hosts four residential facilities for adults aged 18 and older, catering to both men and women. A comprehensive initial assessment helps formulate individualized treatment plans tailored to each person's specific needs. The treatment team comprises licensed addiction professionals and mental health experts who guide clients managing substance use disorders alongside related mental health challenges like anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma.

The adult residential programs at Odyssey House focus on fostering accountability and establishing a solid recovery foundation through evidence-based and best practice methodologies. Treatment integrates various services to address different types of addiction and any underlying mental health concerns. Clients engage in structured therapeutic activities aimed at countering negative thought patterns, enhancing life skills, promoting physical well-being, and nurturing trust and effective communication to build healthy relationships. Typically, clients remain in the program for six to nine months, after which they receive continuous support to ensure they achieve long-term sobriety and lead stable, independent lives.

Routine-building activities, such as cooking, laundry, and cleanliness, are emphasized within the residential programs to instill essential life skills. Social events and recreational activities are woven into the treatment process to help clients form connections and recognize the potential for enjoyment in sobriety. Individuals are encouraged to take on leadership roles in their peer communities, which aids in fostering self-esteem and motivation. Education is also integrated into the treatment process, with opportunities available for clients to earn their GED or access vocational training in collaboration with the Salt Lake City school system.

Odyssey House of Utah is committed to empowering individuals on their journey to recovery, positioning itself as the largest comprehensive addiction treatment provider in the state. Their focus on connecting individuals to affordable, high-quality care has enabled them to become a Joint Commission-accredited facility accepting Medicaid and numerous major insurance plans.
