About Archway Academy

Archway Academy is a substance-free high school that delivers education to teenagers who are rebuilding their lives after alcohol or drug use disorders. Situated in downtown Houston, Archway Academy has been serving students since 2003. The center’s purpose is to create a stable, structured setting that helps reduce relapse risk and promotes long-term recovery.

Students at Archway Academy can participate in two tracks: the Southwest Schools academic program and Archway Academy’s recovery-focused program. The Southwest Schools portion provides a full academic curriculum built to prepare students for what comes next, including the possibility of higher education and new opportunities after graduation. Alongside this, a group of therapists delivers counseling services and partners with school staff to ensure students receive consistent support, with recovery and academics both treated as priorities.

Archway Academy maintains strong academic standards, including electives, SAT and ACT preparation, college fairs, and student organizations, so students have opportunities comparable to those at other schools. The program also includes a flexible combination of online and in-person coursework, allowing it to adapt to each student’s individual needs. With small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios, students benefit from individualized guidance and continued encouragement from the faculty throughout their education.
