About Serenity Lane

Serenity Lane was co-founded by Tom Kerns, whose motivation grew after he lost his father at a young age to alcoholism and realized how important it is to make addiction care available to everyone. The center accepts patients seven days a week, with the option of same-day admission. Serenity Lane Eugene offers a range of outpatient services for people working on recovery from substance use disorders, clients dealing with a substance use disorder along with another mental health condition, and those seeking help for a mental health concern alone. Programming is available virtually across the outpatient levels, including virtual mental health counseling, and sessions are offered both during the day and in the evening. Confidential screening is provided first, followed by evaluations and individualized care planning, along with participation in 12-step programming.

Serenity Lane Eugene provides two outpatient levels for alcohol and drug addiction treatment. The Level II intensive outpatient program runs for 10 weeks and includes group therapy, individual counseling, and education focused on addiction. Groups meet three times per week for three hours per session. During treatment, participants may be asked to complete urine testing for alcohol and drug use. These tests are billed separately, though insurance may help cover part of the cost. Patients and their family members are also expected to attend a weekly family education seminar to strengthen real-world support systems. Group discussions often include embracing one’s identity as an alcoholic or addict, creating a personal recovery plan, relapse prevention, adjusting to sobriety, and related topics. Staff help guide clients in developing their recovery plan, and clients are encouraged to meet with their counselor as needed. Around the middle of the program, clients write and present an autobiography describing how alcohol or drug addiction has affected their lives. Near the end, clients revisit their recovery plan with their counselor, review any questions or concerns, and receive referrals for continued community support such as individual or marriage counseling.

The Level I outpatient program meets once a week for 1.5-hour sessions. These sessions focus on recognizing stressful life situations and building healthy coping strategies for the challenges of early recovery. Spouses and significant others are encouraged to participate.

Beyond treatment, Serenity Lane offers alumni events, recovery support gatherings, and service opportunities, along with practical resources for continuing growth in recovery, with some options available virtually. Alumni recovery support continues for one full year after outpatient treatment ends.

Serenity Lane also includes a family program at no extra charge, featuring education, therapy, and support designed to improve family relationships and communication. Family support groups are available as well, and spouses and significant others may attend weekly family support sessions. Family sessions can also be coordinated with the patient’s primary counselor when appropriate.

The DUII education and diversion programs at Serenity Lane are certified by the state of Oregon and meet all court and DMV requirements. The center provides DMV-certified diversion, treatment groups, and education groups. For people ordered into treatment, Serenity Lane offers a “Blue Flag” program that tracks progress and attendance and provides reporting as required.
