About Serenity Lane

Serenity Lane was co-founded by Tom Kerns, whose motivation came from losing his father at a young age to alcoholism and seeing how critical it is to make addiction care available to everyone. The center accepts patients seven days a week, including the option for same-day admission. Serenity Lane Bend offers outpatient services for people working toward recovery from substance use disorders, for clients who also have a co-occurring mental health condition (dual diagnosis), and for those seeking help for a mental health concern without a substance use disorder. The program includes multiple virtual options, such as virtual mental health therapy.

Serenity Lane Bend provides two outpatient program levels in a hybrid format, with some sessions held in person and others delivered through telehealth. The Level II Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) runs for 10 weeks and features group therapy, one-on-one counseling, and education focused on addiction and substance use disorders. Participants attend groups three times per week for three hours per session, with both morning and evening group options available to support different schedules. A family support group is held on Mondays from 6 to 9 PM. The Level I outpatient program typically involves meeting once or twice weekly for 1.5-hour sessions over a 12 to 24 month period. It includes group, individual, and family sessions coordinated through the participant’s primary counselor, helping individuals recognize and manage stressful life situations and adjust to the challenges of early recovery. Across both programs, clients may join a 12-step program, work on relapse prevention, and receive consultation along with referrals to community resources.

Beyond core treatment, Serenity Lane offers alumni events, recovery support meetings, and service opportunities, plus practical guidance for building life skills in recovery through alumni services, with some activities available virtually. After finishing outpatient care, individuals can access recovery support for one full year. A family program is available at no extra cost and includes education, therapy, and support to strengthen communication and rebuild family relationships. Family sessions for spouses and significant others are also offered on Mondays from 6 to 9 PM, and additional family sessions can be arranged with the patient’s primary counselor as needed.

Serenity Lane’s DUII education and diversion programs are state-certified in Oregon and meet all court and DMV expectations. The center provides DMV-certified diversion services, including treatment and education groups. For people required to complete treatment, Serenity Lane uses a “Blue Flag” program that tracks progress and attendance and submits required reporting. The center also offers specialized training for employers through its employer services program, including how to recognize signs of substance misuse, coordinate FMLA, support employees during reintegration, and additional workforce-focused guidance.
