About Serenity Lane

Serenity Lane was co-founded by Tom Kerns, who was motivated after losing his father at a young age to alcoholism and wanted to ensure addiction treatment is available to everyone. The center accepts patients seven days a week, including the option for same-day admission. Serenity Lane Albany offers multiple outpatient programs for people working to recover from substance use disorders, those who have both a substance use disorder and another mental health issue, and individuals who are dealing with a mental health concern only.

The center’s Level II Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) runs for 10 weeks and includes group counseling, individual sessions, and education focused on addiction and substance use disorders. Participants attend group therapy three times per week for three hours each session. Serenity Lane provides both morning and evening groups to fit different schedules and delivers care in a hybrid format, combining in-person components with virtual sessions. A family support group is available virtually on Mondays from 6 to 9 PM.

For its Level I outpatient services, clients typically attend once or twice weekly for 1.5-hour sessions. This program lasts 12 to 24 months and includes group, individual, and family meetings with the participant’s primary counselor. Through the program, individuals learn strategies to recognize stressors and manage the ups and downs of early recovery. Level I programming is also offered in a hybrid format, with separate telehealth groups for men and women.

Serenity Lane’s DUII education and diversion programs are certified through the state of Oregon and meet all required court and DMV standards. The center provides DMV-certified diversion options, treatment groups, and education groups. For people required by the court to participate, Serenity Lane offers a “Blue Flag” program that allows monitoring of progress and attendance for reporting.

Serenity Lane also includes a family program at no extra cost, offering education, therapy, and support to strengthen family communication and relationships. Additional family support groups are available as well. Spouses and significant others may join the Monday family support group from 6 to 9 PM, and family sessions with the patient’s primary counselor can be arranged when needed.

The center further supports employers through its employer services training program. Services include learning how to identify signs of substance abuse, coordinating FMLA, supporting employees as they return to work, and other workplace reintegration resources.

In addition, Serenity Lane organizes engaging events, alumni recovery support meetings, and service opportunities, along with practical guidance for growing in recovery through alumni services, with some activities available virtually.
