About Next Step Recovery

Next Step Recovery is a men-only intensive outpatient program (IOP) based in Asheville, North Carolina, offering optional sober living and transitional housing. The center is designed as a strong next step for men ages 18 to 40 who have finished a residential program, are newly returning to everyday life, or have more complex addiction histories marked by multiple relapses. The structure also supports participants who need to maintain work responsibilities while they continue treatment. The IOP uses a three-part approach that blends structured group therapy, individualized 1-on-1 counseling, and 12-Step recovery. In addition to clinical programming, men can take part in experiential adventure therapy such as hiking, rafting, and local exploration, along with martial arts, meditation, and yoga.

At Next Step Recovery, treatment addresses both substance use and mental health with care tailored to each, recognizing that the two can be connected. The goal is to provide each client with the support, tools, and therapies needed to move beyond challenges linked to dual diagnosis and to build a life they can be proud of.

Sober living and transitional housing are available but not required. Each resident can choose whether a sober living setting would be helpful. These sober living options provide a comfortable, home-like atmosphere, including inviting shared spaces and rooms shared with one roommate.

Next Step Recovery is accredited by the Joint Commission and accepts most private insurance.
