About University of New Mexico Hospital Psychiatric Center

Located on the University of New Mexico (UNM) campus in Albuquerque, UNM Health delivers treatment for adults dealing with mental health conditions or substance use disorders. Its 96-bed program at the Health Sciences Center is the first facility in New Mexico to use neuromodulation for people with treatment-resistant depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia. A leading neuromodulation option at UNM Health is electric convulsive therapy (ECT). The center also provides medication-assisted treatment (MAT) to support recovery from substance use.

UNM Health runs specialized programs for pregnant individuals with substance use disorders, people connected to the justice system, Native American communities, adults age 55 and older, and couples. The organization tailors its services to better match the needs of the Albuquerque-area population and offers substance-use medications that are considered safe for both the expectant parent and the fetus.

UNM Health can offer services in Spanish to meet the needs of the city’s large Spanish-speaking community. Psychiatric programs typically run about 3 to 6 weeks, depending on the chosen track and each person’s requirements. Treatment may include inpatient or outpatient care, with individual, group, and family therapy, along with neuromodulation and medication-based services. The center also offers outpatient detox.

UNM Health supports its client portal through mCharts, allowing clients to view treatment notes during and after their care via the mCharts website or mobile app.
