Eating Disorders Treatment Center (EDTC) is the only program in New Mexico focused specifically on treating eating disorders and supporting recovery. Through a team-based model, EDTC provides patients with dietitian support, one-to-one counseling, psychiatric care, and group therapy to help each person work toward their own treatment goals. The center is able to help individuals with the most common conditions, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge eating disorder, and it also treats other eating-related concerns such as night eating syndrome, laxative misuse, challenges related to body image, and body dysmorphia. EDTC also supports people dealing with additional mental health conditions, including obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma-related issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, and dissociative identity disorders.
EDTC offers structured intensive outpatient programs for adolescents, adults, and binge eating disorder. Across all IOP tracks, participants complete a nutrition assessment and receive individual counseling with one of the center’s dietitians. Dietitians help patients create meal plans and prepare a straightforward, healthy meal that is shared with the group each evening. After the meal, therapists guide patients through reflection and processing. Treatment uses a combination of evidence-based approaches and expressive therapeutic techniques throughout the program.
The adolescent and adult programs run from 4:15pm to 7:15pm, four days per week. Each week includes one family-focused session in which patients and their families work together on identified challenges. In the adult program, patients may also involve partners or other family members who are important to their recovery. The binge eating disorder IOP serves individuals of all ages and genders who experience symptoms of binge eating disorder. The program is intended to help participants identify and work through the underlying factors connected to their symptoms, move toward a more peaceful relationship with food, and practice healthier coping strategies. It also includes a monthly meeting for the participant’s family or support group to support learning and strengthen relationships.
The PHP runs Monday through Friday from 12:30pm to 6:30pm, with an added extension on Tuesday evenings for family programming. During treatment, patients receive two meals and one snack each day, with support from registered dietitians and dietary staff. The program also includes group educational and counseling sessions, individual counseling, and medical and psychiatric evaluations. Participants engage in a variety of expressive and experiential therapies and meet with a registered dietitian weekly to review and track individualized meal planning.
EDTC provides nutrition counseling to a broad range of people, not only those with a formal eating disorder diagnosis. Dietitians address nutritional health and eating-related concerns, monitor weight when appropriate, and promote healthier attitudes and behaviors around food. The team offers personalized nutrition education and guidance, helps patients work through their relationship with food and body image, and supports goal-setting toward intuitive, healthy eating. Staff are prepared to assist with nutrition-related needs such as diabetes, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, weight management, and related topics.
Also confirm the facility is licensed by New Mexico. If you are withdrawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, ask about medical detox; do not stop suddenly on your own.
Eating Disorders Treatment Center did not report which payment types it accepts. If you have Medicaid, ask whether the facility accepts your New Mexico Medicaid plan or can refer you to one that does. Most private plans must cover substance use treatment on terms comparable to other medical care under federal parity law.
