About Advanced Health and Education

Advanced Health and Education provides several levels of outpatient care for substance use, along with a primary outpatient mental health program. In addition, it offers an LGBTQ+ support group and an active alumni network. Services are based on both evidence-based traditional approaches and complementary options, including acupuncture and chiropractic care.

The Partial Care program at AHE includes 5 hours of treatment each day, 6 days a week, for a maximum of 45 days. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) operates 3 days per week, 3 hours per day, for up to 16 weeks. Outpatient counseling typically consists of up to two sessions per week, with sessions lasting up to two hours, and continuing for as long as the case manager determines is appropriate. Across all programs, AHE follows a holistic model: alongside individual and group therapy, clients also address topics such as family issues, health care needs, parenting skills, job-related goals, and legal concerns.

AHE’s primary mental health program runs 6 days a week, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and most participants stay for 30 to 45 days. The program is designed to support long-term, healthy coping with mental health conditions, while building practical skills for everyday life. Among the skills emphasized are communication strategies, anger and stress management, mindfulness, learning to recognize and understand emotions, and coping with grief and loss.

AHE also includes alternative health and wellness practices such as yoga, guided meditation, aromatherapy, somatic experiences, eastern philosophies, and mindfulness-based techniques, along with acupuncture and chiropractic care. These elements are intended to help clients feel more at ease during treatment and more connected to their own bodies.

To serve LGBTQ+ clients, AHE created the Perspectives program, which offers a dedicated community. The weekly gathering provides a secure environment for sharing experiences, addressing common challenges with the support of a group leader, and strengthening peer support.

Graduates and former participants in AHE’s Partial Care, IOP, and outpatient programs can join the alumni community. Alumni groups discuss both progress and setbacks within a diverse community. The AHE alumni association organizes monthly meetings and seasonal events, and it also provides ongoing support.
