About Riverbend

Zack’s House is a transitional housing program designed for young men ages 18 to 35 who are rebuilding their lives after substance use recovery. Before joining, participants must have finished detox and maintained recovery for approximately 3 to 6 months. Through a structured and caring community, residents receive case management, recovery coaching, and clinical consultation when needed, along with weekly house meetings involving both staff and participants. With their recovery coaches, individuals develop personalized plans grounded in trauma-informed care, focused on next-step treatment goals and relapse prevention.

Zack’s House is named in honor of Zachary Gys, a Lowell resident who passed away from a drug overdose in 2013. Following his death, his family and friends partnered with Lowell House to create Zack’s House, offering transitional housing for young men experiencing similar substance use challenges. The program is intended to connect supervised recovery settings with independent living, helping participants build the skills and support needed for sustained sobriety.

Zack’s House operates under Lowell House Incorporated, a non-profit organization classified as 501(c)(3). Lowell House is supported by funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MassHealth, client fees, grants, and community fundraising.
