About Recovery Centers of America
Ranked #6 in Maryland in Newsweek’s 2024 ranking of America’s Best Addiction Centers, RCA at Capital Region provides evidence-based addiction treatment paired with a uniquely caring approach. The center supports people dealing with substance use disorders and related mental health challenges through a complete range of programs, including medically supervised detox, residential care, day treatment, and intensive outpatient options available both in person and through virtual sessions. RCA also offers the Thrive program, designed to deliver targeted assistance for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
RCA follows six guiding principles that the team considers important for helping each client build lasting recovery. This includes using medications to lessen cravings and lower the risk of relapse, participating in daily 12-step meetings to strengthen peer support, and learning dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills to better handle emotions and navigate difficult situations. Additional elements include involving families in the process, maintaining active connections through an alumni network after discharge, and using real-time progress monitoring to refine treatment as needs change.
Located just beyond the Capital Beltway with convenient access to Virginia and Washington, D.C., RCA’s Capital Region campus offers a calm, modern setting focused on healing. Semi-private rooms are designed for comfort and privacy, and outdoor spaces such as gazebos, picnic areas, and lawn games help clients build community. During treatment, clients can also use the on-site gym and recreational center, supporting a healthy balance of rest, activity, and supportive relationships.
RCA’s alumni association continues to support clients long after they complete treatment. Through recovery meetings and sober social gatherings—such as movie nights, sports events, and picnics—alumni stay connected for enjoyment, fellowship, and encouragement. Many activities allow alumni to bring family and friends, helping their support network remain involved in the recovery journey.
