About IAFF Center of Excellence
IAFF Center of Excellence is a treatment and recovery facility focused on behavioral health for professional firefighters who face trauma, substance misuse, and addiction, with a primary emphasis on PTSD. Care is grounded in evidence-based practices and delivered through a coordinated, multidisciplinary team, bringing together physicians, nurses, and clinicians from multiple specialties to address the individual as a whole rather than only the substance use or a co-occurring condition. The center typically works with clients dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), depression, and anxiety. IAFF Center of Excellence provides clinically supervised detox, inpatient residential services, partial hospitalization (PHP), intensive outpatient (IOP), teletherapy, and structured aftercare planning. Treatment options include individual and group counseling, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), life skills training, nutrition education, 12-step facilitation, exposure therapy, medication management, and experiential approaches. Aftercare includes relapse prevention support, access to 12-step resources, an alumni mentoring program, planning and assistance for returning to work, diagnostic follow-up check-ins, and referrals to local behavioral and medical health providers. The center is accredited by the Joint Commission.
The IAFF Center of Excellence campus covers 15 acres and is organized across 7 buildings. Clients are housed in one of four station house-style locations, each equipped with comfortable furnishings and a firehouse-inspired theme. Residents are grouped according to shared treatment needs to strengthen peer connection and support. The program also offers walking trails, yoga, animal-assisted intervention, outdoor volleyball, a basketball court, an outdoor pool, and a fully equipped fitness center. Nutrition coaching and balanced meals and snacks are also available to support overall wellness.
