About Allegany County Health Department

The Allegany County Health Department BH Services/Joseph S Massie Unit provides treatment for adults dealing with alcohol dependency and substance use disorders. The program includes several care levels, such as withdrawal management, inpatient treatment, and residential services. Residential stays are tailored to each person, typically lasting three to eight weeks, depending on clinical needs. The unit also offers medication for opioid and alcohol use disorders (MOUD/MOAD) to support recovery and help individuals work toward abstinence.

Treatment is supported by multiple therapeutic services aimed at long-term progress. Patients can participate in individual, family, and group counseling to address the emotional and social factors connected to addiction. Vocational guidance and aftercare planning are also provided, helping participants develop practical skills and prepare for independent living.

In addition to core addiction services, the Massie Unit offers health and support programs such as HIV testing, counseling, and education to strengthen overall wellness. They also provide gambling assessment and counseling for people with co-occurring concerns. Alternative pain management counseling is available as well, giving patients additional options to support effective care.
