About Chrysalis House Healthy Start

Founded in 1986, Chrysalis House is among the limited residential recovery options in Maryland that enables women to stay with their children, helping remove one of the major obstacles to getting care. Chrysalis House Healthy Start supports women age 18 and older who are pregnant or who have a child under 3 and who are dealing with substance use and/or mental health challenges. The program provides community-based housing that combines a stable, sober environment with supportive, whole-person recovery services.

Care is delivered through an active, trauma-informed approach. Women can complete a recovery capital assessment, develop individualized service plans, and participate in behavioral health therapies. The center’s whole-person model also includes prenatal and mother–child medical appointments, parenting education, life-skills training, case management, and on-site AA meetings. Together, these resources help participants build resilience, strengthen parenting abilities, improve well-being, and work toward independence.

Healthy Start offers women a safe and private place to live, along with transportation scheduled during business hours. The program also includes childcare and meals, supporting long-term progress for both mothers and children.
