About Foundation House

Set in a coastal neighborhood of Portland, Maine, Foundation House offers structured sober living for men. Support is delivered through hands-on activities, multiple therapeutic approaches, and career assistance. The program includes a fully licensed intensive outpatient option along with sober living accommodations across three furnished residences. Foundation House uses clinically supported methods such as 12 Step meetings, individual and group counseling, motivational interviewing, CBT, and DBT. In addition, men can choose from complementary wellness services, including health and cooking education, yoga, music production, float spa sessions, and woodworking.

On-site at the clinical campus and through off-site outings, residents can take part in a wide range of experiential programs. Examples include wilderness trips, hiking, biking, rock climbing, personal training, sports leagues, and skiing. Foundation House also manages a 120-acre therapeutic working ranch, where men can hike, use the pool, and enjoy seasonal winter activities. The center further runs an annual international excursion that combines cultural immersion with volunteer service.

Foundation House also provides academic and vocational guidance, helping men with job searching, educational planning, and resume building. A family program is available as well, offering regular updates from a licensed clinical psychologist, family support meetings, and on-site workshops.

Foundation House primarily serves men seeking recovery from substance use, including drug and alcohol addiction, as well as co-occurring conditions, sex addiction, and trauma/PTSD. The center also focuses on strengthening relationships and addressing challenges associated with “failure to launch.” For the Joint Commission accredited program, monthly self-pay, sliding scale, and scholarship options are available.
