About Oceans Behavioral Hospital

Located in Howell Community Park, Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge’s peaceful north campus is a mental health treatment center focused on disorders such as anger issues, anxiety, bipolar disorder, depression, grief, OCD, PTSD, schizophrenia, self-harm, stress, trauma, as well as alcohol and drug addiction and co-occurring conditions. Services include individual counseling, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT), group therapy, medication management, relapse prevention counseling, relaxation-based therapies, and 12-Step Facilitation.

Treatment options depend on age. Adolescents ages 13–17 receive outpatient therapy. Adults 18–29 can choose intensive outpatient (IOP) or day treatment. Adults 30–49 have access to intensive outpatient (IOP), day, and residential programs. Adults 50 and older receive intensive outpatient (IOP), day, and residential care, with services tailored to challenges related to aging, including Alzheimer’s and dementia, along with medication management. The residential program includes 40 beds, including spaces for residents with dementia. The hospital’s psychiatric team reviews each person’s progress and medications on a daily basis.

Oceans Behavioral Hospital operates multiple facilities across Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and Oklahoma. Several locations focus on senior-related or military-related mental health concerns, and more sites are expanding services for adolescents. Many of these facilities coordinate and share resources with one or two nearby locations. Oceans Behavioral Hospital Baton Rouge also has a south-side campus that concentrates on aging-related needs and shares resources with the north-side center.
