About Southern Iowa Mental Health Center
Southern Iowa Mental Health Center (SIMHC) supports individuals facing mental health and substance use concerns through a range of services, from brief evaluations at the access center to short-term crisis stabilization and intensive or longer outpatient programs. They provide care for both adults and children. SIMHC’s mobile crisis team includes licensed mental health professionals who can meet people where they are—such as at home, in a clinic, at school, or in other community settings.
The center offers evidence-based treatment approaches, including mindfulness therapy (MT), cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing therapy (EMDR). Clinicians may also use dialectical behavior therapy and trauma-focused CBT to help clients better recognize their thoughts and emotions, build coping strategies, and work through challenging experiences, promoting healthier daily functioning and improved well-being.
SIMHC also features special programs, such as a 23-hour crisis observation unit for timely support. For eligible individuals, they provide an integrated health home program that coordinates physical health and mental health services. In addition, SIMHC offers on-site pharmacy support to make medication access more convenient for clients and their families.
