About ABRAXAS Youth and Family Services
Southwood Interventions, a program of ABRAXAS Youth and Family Services, delivers substance use treatment for adults in Chicago and surrounding suburbs. The center offers residential, detox, and outpatient services for people dealing with substance use alongside co-occurring mental health conditions. Care is grounded in proven approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Seeking Safety, and participation in 12-Step programs, provided by a coordinated team of medical and behavioral health specialists.
Residential options include the Men’s Short Term, Women’s Short Term, and City Program. Although each program is organized and staffed differently, they all prioritize individualized support. Southwood also provides medically supervised detox with round-the-clock oversight from physicians and nurses. Detox generally runs up to five days and features counseling and recovery planning designed to prepare clients for the next stage of treatment.
For adults age 18 and older who do not require residential care, Southwood offers outpatient services tailored to age and gender. These services include standard and intensive outpatient programming, DUI evaluations, early intervention classes, and aftercare support. Outpatient treatment helps clients maintain progress while continuing to live at home, with services offered across Englewood and throughout Chicago’s south side to accommodate specific needs.
