After detox, residents move into residential programming where they participate in both individual and group counseling. Therapists at Hawaii Island Recovery use approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Care is trauma-informed and compassionate, incorporating methods like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Neurofeedback. To strengthen a sense of community, the center promotes ongoing peer support through 12-Step meetings and Dharma recovery gatherings.

Experiential therapies are also used as a group-based method to encourage meaningful emotions and insights that help sustain long-term recovery. The program includes learning experiences connected to Hawaiian culture and nature-focused activities. Clients may take guided hikes through cloud forests with panoramic ocean scenery, explore lava fields, and visit hidden waterfalls. Near the water, they can participate in dolphin-assisted therapy and whale watching. Excursions are planned to honor and involve local communities.

Set at the western edge of the Big Island, Hawaii Island Recovery offers inspiring ocean views and a welcoming place to heal. Guests enjoy comfortable, spacious bedrooms, chef-prepared meals made with local ingredients, and a peaceful yard filled with greenery, plants, and fruit trees. The program makes full use of the island through visits to black sand beaches, scenic mountain hikes, waterfall treks, and other water-based activities.
