About Skyland Trail
In Atlanta, Georgia, the Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus serves adolescents ages 14 to 17 and is affiliated with a well-known national nonprofit mental health provider. Skyland Trail approaches treatment individually, designing evidence-based care plans tailored to each person and guided by a whole-person model. Through a classroom-style format, clients learn about their mental health diagnoses and develop practical skills for managing stress, reducing the risk of relapse, and coping more effectively. About 13 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta, Skyland J. Rex Fuqua Campus provides residential services for teens across the greater Atlanta region. The program works with many major private insurance plans and also offers financial assistance to help eligible families lower out-of-pocket expenses.
Residential clients at Skyland Trail J. Rex Fuqua Campus have private bedrooms and bathrooms. The campus includes comfortable indoor dining and lounge spaces, common areas with natural light, dedicated spaces for schoolwork, gardens, and outdoor recreation areas. Licensed nursing staff and residential counselors are available around the clock. For education, teens in both residential and day programs complete school responsibilities either with their current school or through ADVANTAGES Digital Learning Solutions, with 2.5 hours of daily academic support.
Programming is structured around weekly clinical and therapeutic activities, including individual meetings with a psychiatrist and therapist, group therapy, skills training, peer support, physical fitness and sports, yoga, and creative approaches such as art and music. Both residential and day clients and their families take part in weekly family therapy through video sessions. Families also join an additional program centered on education about mental health and support for caregivers. Treatment commonly uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) to address concerns such as anxiety, low self-esteem, anger, and self-harm. Based on each client’s needs, additional groups may reflect Ecological Systems Theory and substance use education. Some clients receive psychological testing as part of individualized care, and trauma-focused prolonged exposure (PE) therapy may be included when appropriate. Residential stays typically last 8 to 12 weeks, followed by a transition to day treatment.
Day treatment generally runs for about 4 to 6 weeks. Clients attend Monday through Friday, arriving between 8:15 AM and 8:45 AM and leaving at 3:00 PM. Transportation is arranged so clients do not drive themselves to treatment. In many cases, day treatment continues after residential care, though suitable candidates may enter the program directly. For those who start in day treatment without first completing residential care, the stay is usually about four additional weeks.
