Located in the designed community of New Haven, Yale New Haven Health delivers tailored, research-supported, medically driven care for children age 5 and older, teenagers, and adults dealing with mental health conditions, including situations where mental illness and substance use disorders occur together. As part of Yale School of Medicine’s Department of Psychiatry, the center’s team is actively involved in developing new mental health treatment approaches and carrying out clinical studies.
Yale New Haven Health offers mental health services through referrals, which may come from primary care providers within Yale or from other healthcare organizations.
Services are available both in person and via telehealth.
At the Yale New Haven Health Outpatient Psychiatric Services site on 425 George Street, clients can access intensive outpatient (IOP) programming. The IOP program includes three tracks: a general option, a dual diagnosis option for people who have alcohol or drug addictions alongside mental health needs, and a dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) track. The DBT track is often most effective for clients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) and related personality conditions. Across all three tracks, sessions are held three or four times per week, with each day’s programming lasting about four hours.
Within each track, Yale provides specialized group sessions addressing topics such as bipolar disorder, anxiety, family-related concerns, grief, and trauma. Along with psychotherapy, the center also offers selected biomedical and medical treatments, including ketamine injections, esketamine injections, transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), and electroconvulsive therapy (ECT).
To support communication and continuity of care, Yale New Haven Health uses MyChart from Epic Systems so clients can view care notes during and after treatment and stay in touch with the center.
Also confirm the facility is licensed by Connecticut. If you are withdrawing from alcohol or benzodiazepines, ask about medical detox; do not stop suddenly on your own.
